MUN is a simulation of the United Nations in the form of a weekend-long conference that puts students into scenarios that represent the organizations directly or indirectly linked to the United Nations. MUN conferences began as a student-led Model League of Nations back in the 1920’s, and since the formation of the UN it has transformed into Model United Nations. The conference largely acts as an academic medium for high-schoolers to discuss and to have an understanding of global matters in a political, social and economic sense while also emphasizing and rewarding communication and networking skills. 

Participating in an AUDMUN conference is a great way to improve your self-confidence and communication skills in multiple ways such as by enhancing your ability to express your point of view in a formal discussion. It also keeps you aware of what is happening around the world each and every day. Delegates will be required to work along with other delegates (i.e. to write a resolution) which builds their sense of teamwork and leadership skills. 

To register for the conference, click “Register Now” on the top banner of this website. Then, choose either “Individual” or “Delegation” and proceed to fill in your details. Finally, complete the payment and you will receive an invoice to the specified email. 

Delegates must conduct efficient and relevant background research on their respective committee allocations. Be fully aware of all the functions that revolve around your committee before entering the conference, along with the functions of the UN as a whole (I.e. The UN Charter). For example, if you were chosen as a Delegate of China, then you must be fully aware of all the relations between China and its allies, opposing states, the committee, and the UN itself.

Yes, there is a dress code for the AUDMUN conference. Delegates must be wearing formal attire. Additionally, males and females may opt for the local dress (kandura or Abaya). 

The position paper is a paper that a delegate must write prior to the conference. In this paper the delegate should include a brief general overview on the topics and his or her stance on the topics of his or her committee. The position paper should most likely include statistics, causes, reasons, supporting details, factual details, quotes, etc. Background guides are guides written by the chairs of each committee in order to facilitate the process of research for the delegates. The background guides include more specific details on each topic and a brief explanation that will allow the delegates to further understand the topics.

A chair is the person responsible for moderating the committee session. You can find the names and contact information of the Chairs for your respective committees here  

A good position paper is one that clearly states the country’s position or stance, includes facts and statistics, causes and effects of the issues being discussed, and is written in the correct form, using clear English. Delegates must ensure that all position papers are free of plagiarism of any kind by paraphrasing and using appropriate citations where required.  

There are two types of committees, high school and university committees. Within these two categories, there are varying levels of difficulty depending on the committee (i.e. ICJ is considered to be an advanced high school committee while UNESCO is considered to be a beginner high school committee). 

Faculty Advisors are allowed to walk in at any time during committee sessions so long as they do not serve as a source of disturbance or distraction for the delegates.

Laptops are allowed during committee sessions for conference purposes only. If devices are being misused the moderators will take action to restrict the use of said devices. 

Social Night is an event held by the executive board members to serve as an ice breaker between delegates and chairs. During this event, dinner is served, fun activities are held, and a DJ is present to provide musical entertainment. The social night is the best chance for you to have a break from the stress and tensions of the conference!
